Critical Conversation
Join us on April 4th when Dr. Honora Englander will lead a discussion about integrating addiction care across U.S. Hospitals.
This webinar is presented by the OHSU School of Medicine Alumni Association.
Dr. Englander is the director of OHSU’s Improving Addiction Care Team (IMPACT) and will share the great work of OHSU’s program. IMPACT started at OHSU in 2015, taking an innovative approach to the growing substance-use crisis in our region. Now they are expanding to share their experience with providers, hospital teams and researchers across Oregon and beyond.
Dr. Honora Englander is a Professor in the Division of Hospital Medicine and Division of General Internal Medicine Section of Addiction Medicine at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). Dr. Englander is founder and Principal Investigator of the Improving Addiction Care Team (IMPACT), an internationally recognized model for hospital-based addiction care that includes physicians, social workers, nurses, and peers with lived experience in recovery. She is working to change the standard of care for hospitalized adults with substance use disorder by redesigning care and shifting our view of addiction from one of shame and stigma, towards one that embraces belonging, treatment, and healing. Dr. Englander has received numerous awards for her work transforming health systems including being named one of the Portland Business Journal’s ‘Top Forty under 40’ in 2015 and one of the American College of Physician’s Hospitalist TOP DOC in 2012. She has spoken at the National Academy of Sciences and published research in numerous journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, Annals of Internal Medicine, Journal of General Internal Medicine, Journal of Hospital Medicine, and the Journal of Addiction Medicine.
Dr. Englander completed her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at OHSU in 2004, 2006 respectively, joined faculty in July 2007.
